Myanmar’s Mergui Archipelago
Myanmar (Burma) first opened up its islands to the outside world in 1997.
Thai-Sailing was one of the first companies to get permission to lead adventure, sailing, and diving trips to the Mergui Archipelago.
Since then, we have learned a lot about this amazing place, and we are eager to share that knowledge with our guests.
Because of its isolation, this Archipelago actually hasn’t been surveyed in depth.
Many islands still haven’t been visited by geographers.
This island paradise of Myanmar’s Mergui Archipelago is home to rare wildlife. And lush with tropical rainforests and kilometers of clean, empty beaches.
Our adventure sailing and diving charter to Myanmar will take you to the most remote areas, where few other yachts ever venture.
The only people we will meet there are the friendly Moken sea gypsies.
Like their ancestors before them, they roam their territory looking for sustenance.
Diving in the Mergui Archipelago
The Mergui Archipelago has spectacular dive sites.
The diving here is truly spectacular: reefs, cliff walls, and caves, some of which run through one side of the island to another, all just waiting to be explored.
There is so much variety here that even the most demanding adventure diver will come away enthralled.
When diving in the Mergui Archipelago, you’ll get to see sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, and maybe even whale sharks up close.
The catamaran S.Y. Mozart has diving equipment and a divemaster on-board. It offers impeccable service.
In fact our catamaran is so popular that it is featured in several publications such as:
A typical 7 day charter makes you visit some 20+ islands and anchorages and covers some 240 miles of travelling, from North to South, from East to West.
You can dive and sail from November to May. The weather is on your side with no strong wind to worry about. Weather patterns are predictable in the Mergui Archipelago.
The Mozart can comfortably host up to 8 people.
We are also happy to accommodate a smaller group in a more private ambiance.
Every trip will be adjusted to meet your particular preferences and requirements. The adventure begins and ends when and where you like.
All boat trips to Myanmar start across from the city of Ranong, in Kawthaung, which is Burma’s southernmost harbor in the Andaman Sea.
Sailing to Mergui Archipelago from Phuket
We will pick you up from the airport or from your hotel, and take you to Ranong in an air-conditioned minibus.
Once we have arrived, and all border formalities are taken care of, we’ll take a longtail boat across the river, to cross the border into Kawthaung.
Come with us on this once-in-a-lifetime trip!
